The venue for the wedding is going to be the historic Haarlemmermeerstation. Yes, that is a lot of double letters.
We chose it for its location – it is right in our part of Amsterdam – as well as its style. The room where we’ll be having the reception has the same leaded glass you can find in our apartment, and the rest of the contemporary buildings of the Amsterdam school. The tram museum was just gravy.
History
The Haarlemmermeer station, which operated under the name Wilemspark until 1933 was built in 1915. The station is located in Amsterdam Zuid on Amstelveensweg and Havenstraat. Passenger traffic was discontinued on the rail lines that ran to the station from the south but continued to be used off and on for cargo transport, coal, and building materials.
The station was given to the burroughs in the 90s and was remodeled to suit its current multifunction purposes. It currently is home to the Museumtramlijn (the Museum tram line) and the event space we’re using. It has been used in the past for the recording of television shows.
